The passing of a teacher

Chances are, if you’ve made any inquiry at all into working with the breath, meditation, mindfulness and tea, you’ve come across at least one of the teachings of Thich Nhat Hahn. Often referred to as Thay, this sweet Vietnamese teacher of the Dharma was loved by millions. His loving style and the way he gently nudged his students to play in mindfulness and the breath, opened the door for many to explore deeper, calmer states of being alive.

He passed away yesterday, leaving behind a legacy of joy that will continue to enliven and uplift beings always. The world was so fortunate to have him for his 95 years as he taught us compassion, peace and love.

Thank you, Thay, we are ready to continue to live your words and your teachings.

We encourage you to check out his many teachings through his books, online teachings and his quotes on tea, as well. For now, we will leave you with one of our favorite quotes by Thay. May it serve you well.

“Tea is an act complete in its simplicity.
When I drink tea, there is only me and the tea.
The rest of the world dissolves.
There are no worries about the future.
No dwelling on past mistakes.
Tea is simple: loose-leaf tea, hot pure water, a cup.
I inhale the scent, tiny delicate pieces of the tea floating above the cup.
I drink the tea, the essence of the leaves becoming a part of me.
I am informed by the tea, changed.
This is the act of life, in one pure moment, and in this act the truth of the world suddenly becomes revealed: all the complexity, pain, drama of life is a pretense, invented in our minds for no good purpose.
There is only the tea, and me, converging.”
